SOAP is a protocol created for the exchange of information between software systems. It was formerly an acronym for Simple Object Access Protocol (denoting the object nature of the Protocol), but since version 1.2 of the standard the W3C has erased the acronym.
A SOAP message is defined as a set of information in XML format.
